Soil

Soil is an loose but complex mixture of minerals, water, organic matter, organisms etc that cover the land surface of the Earth. The body of Earth's soil is called Pedosphere.

The study of soil is generally referred as Soil science. Soil science is further divided into 1) Pedology 2) Edaphology.

Pedology - It is specifically the study of soils in their natural environment. Pedogenesis, soil morphology, and soil classification are concepts under Pedology.

Edaphology - It is the study concerned with the influence of soils on living things, particularly plants, fungi and humans beings. It includes the study of how soil influences humankind's use of land for plant growth as well as people's overall use of the land.
